  • The pizzas have specific best-by dates and an establishment number marking them as imported from Italy.
  • Consumers are urged to discard or return affected pizzas, though no illnesses have been reported.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced that Trader Joe’s Uncured Pepperoni Pizza, shipped from Italy, missed the mandatory import reinspection process.

These frozen pizzas are no longer available for sale, but officials advise customers to check their freezers for any remaining packages.

“Due to a paperwork error, a shipment of Trader Joe’s Uncured Pepperoni Pizza (SKU# 79898, Best By Dates of 8/16/26 and 8/21/26), imported from Italy was not presented for import reinspection into the United States prior to delivery to these Trader Joe’s stores in Southern California,” the company explained.

Affected products feature either “MFG LOT: 06/16/25 BEST BY: 08/16/26” or “MFG LOT: 06/21/25 BEST BY 08/21/26” on the bottom of the box, and display Italy establishment number “IT 1558 L UE.”

Authorities recommend customers throw away or return the pizza if they’ve already purchased it.

“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience,” Trader Joe’s shared with shoppers.

No illnesses have been reported in connection to this pizza, but anyone experiencing symptoms should consult a healthcare provider.

Stay updated on food safety for peace of mind when stocking your freezer.
