Flu Cases Surge Across 35 States: What the CDC’s Latest Report Reveals

Published

on

As flu season continues to grip the nation, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently reported a significant increase in influenza cases across the United States. During the week of January 18, positive tests for the flu surged by 25%, with emergency room visits for the illness remaining “very high.” Additionally, influenza A has been detected in increasing amounts in wastewater samples nationwide.

However, this latest data release from the CDC is notably different from its usual detailed reports. Traditionally, the CDC’s weekly FluView report provides comprehensive insights into the flu season, including virus types, hospitalization rates, mortality statistics, and case distribution by state. The last detailed FluView report was issued for the week ending January 11, 2025.

The shift in reporting is due to a directive from the Trump administration halting all scientific communication from federal health agencies until at least February 1. Consequently, the CDC has integrated its flu statistics into a broader “Respiratory Virus Activity Levels” report, which also covers COVID-19, RSV, and other respiratory illnesses.

This change has raised concerns among health experts. Dr. Aaron Glatt, chief of infectious diseases at Mount Sinai South Nassau in New York, emphasized the importance of detailed data for resource allocation and future planning.

“We look at data like this to see what additional resources we might need to bring in,” he explained. “It gives us a certain sense of what will happen.”

Without precise state-by-state or strain-specific trends, healthcare providers are left with significant gaps in information. Dr. Glatt further remarked, “One piece of data in a huge data stream is probably not the end of the world. However, I am concerned if this continues. We do need to know, are we going up? Or are we going down?”

Currently, both experts and the public must depend on a combination of new and older data to track the flu’s spread. As of January 18, influenza A has been found at “very high” levels in wastewater samples from 35 states. The CDC cautions that wastewater data cannot pinpoint the source of influenza A viruses, as detections could originate from humans, animals, or animal products.

For those seeking more detailed information, the most recent comprehensive data available from the CDC is from two weeks ago. Despite the reporting changes, health experts continue to advocate for flu vaccinations. As of January 4, approximately 43% of U.S. adults and children had received the influenza vaccine. They stress that getting vaccinated remains a worthwhile measure to protect against the flu.

I’m so glad you asked. That is exactly what the Biden administration did during COVID. They lumped everything together. So you’re saying it was ok for Biden to do, but not for Trump, who is a heck of a lot smarter than Brandon and who actually cares about the American people, unlike sleepy joe. Isn’t it funny how the flu was non-existent, ALL during COVID. Nothing. It was all COVID. Big Pharma is in full force, so is fear mongering and so it TDS. Disgusting.

I wish people would stop the blame game. Seems like everyone but you knows trump only cares about himself. It is blatantly evident if you only listen and watch.

So you can only respond by attacking Trump? It’s very telling that you can’t respond to the valid criticism of the Biden administration, when we apparently had a miraculous drop in flu cases as EVERYTHING was considered COVID. The lies and corruption were rampant during the last four years, but somehow Trump is the bad guy. You Biden a**-kissers are nauseating. Trump has already helped more American citizens in his first two weeks than Biden did in his entire term.

I don’t care what the CDC says, nor do I care about ANY “experts.” The CDC, Fauci, Big Pharma, the FDA, NIH and media like this BS have taught me that you people are incapable of truth. I remember the Illinois Secretary of State giving a live “press conference” during “COVID scam” and stating that “yes,” if someone is killed in a motorcycle accident after testing positive for “COVID,” that it counts as a COVID death. What part of NO CREDIBILITY do you people not understand. It’s gone completely and everyone involved in lying to the American people is UNFORGIVEN. BTW, I’m 67 years old, healthy, eat right and take NO DRUGS. NOT ONE.
