Shoppers scanning the produce aisle often reach for beets when they want antioxidant support. Recent nutrient comparisons, however, show several common fruits and vegetables contain even higher levels of these helpful compounds. Small adjustments to a weekly shopping list may therefore deliver a broader antioxidant profile without extra cost or effort.

Berries consistently rank near the top of antioxidant charts. Blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries each offer substantial amounts of anthocyanins and other polyphenols. Their naturally sweet taste makes them easy to add to oatmeal, yogurt, or simple snacks.

“Choosing a variety of colorful produce is one of the simplest ways to include more antioxidants in daily meals,” notes registered dietitian Karen Collins.

Leafy greens also earn a place on the list. Spinach and kale deliver lutein and beta-carotene, two compounds linked to cellular health. A quick sauté or a handful tossed into smoothies keeps preparation minimal.

Artichokes and red cabbage round out the group. Both provide measurable quantities of antioxidant compounds that exceed those found in beets on a per-serving basis. Their longer shelf life makes them practical staples for meal planning.

Portion control remains straightforward. A half-cup serving of berries or a cup of leafy greens supplies meaningful amounts without requiring specialty products. Rotating these foods across the week supports dietary variety while staying within typical calorie needs.
