Five Snacks Surpass Cottage Cheese in Protein Content

Health Points
- Protein-rich snacks can help maintain muscle and satiety during midlife.
- Simple swaps at snack time may support daily protein goals without extra calories.
- Choosing minimally processed options keeps added sugars and sodium in check.
Many adults reach for cottage cheese when they want a quick protein boost. Yet several everyday foods deliver even more of this macronutrient per serving.
Nutrition experts note that spreading choices across the day helps the body use protein efficiently. This approach may also reduce the urge to snack on less nourishing options later.
“Pairing protein with fiber-rich foods keeps energy steady,” says registered dietitian Maria Torres.
Greek yogurt often tops the list, offering roughly double the protein found in the same amount of cottage cheese. A half-cup portion can supply 15 grams or more, depending on the brand.
Roasted soybeans provide a plant-based alternative that travels well in a purse or desk drawer. One small handful supplies about 9 grams of protein and a satisfying crunch.
“Planning a protein-rich snack in the afternoon helps many clients avoid the evening cookie jar,” Torres adds.
Hard-boiled eggs remain a kitchen staple that needs little preparation. Two large eggs contain approximately 12 grams of complete protein along with vitamins the body uses for bone health.
Tuna pouches offer another portable choice. A 3-ounce serving typically provides 20 grams of protein while remaining low in calories if packed in water.
Edamame in the pod works well for an evening nibble. Steaming a cup delivers around 17 grams of protein and counts toward the daily vegetable recommendation.
