Amy Schumer is on the mend after revealing that she recently had a spinal procedure to address lingering back issues. The comedian posted a photo on Instagram, smiling with a walker while clad in comfy sweats, and shared that her lower back had been causing significant discomfort since a previous surfing injury.

“Since my surfing injury back in the day my L5 has been killing me,” she noted in her post. “Today I got a laminectomy! It’s a short recovery and when I’m feeling better I will buy a bra!”

With her signature humor, Schumer posted another update from her hospital bed, joking, “Overheard post back surgery ‘pickle ball keeps this place in business.’”

Laminectomy, a procedure that removes part of a spinal bone to ease nerve or spinal cord pressure, is often used when medications or physical therapy haven’t provided relief. The need for this surgery usually arises after conservative treatments have not improved persistent symptoms.

Conditions like arthritis or age-related changes can lead to bone overgrowth in the spine, causing issues such as pain or weakness that may extend into the limbs.

Schumer has been candid about her health, sharing previous diagnoses and treatments. She spoke about her Cushing syndrome diagnosis in early 2024 and discussed its steroid-related cause. She has also shared her experiences with medications like Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro, and underwent surgery in 2021 for endometriosis that involved the removal of her uterus and appendix.

Stay tuned for more updates and inspiration from Amy as she recovers and continues her health journey.
