Recovery timelines depend on the specific surgery performed. According to Dr. Kelly Hunt, a recovery period for procedures like lumpectomy or sentinel node surgery typically lasts two to three weeks, while a double mastectomy may take four to six weeks or longer.

“During that time, the patient is not debilitated; however, they will feel tired,” said Dr. Janie Grumley.
