How Walking Disneyland Helped Neil Lose 75 Pounds

Every year, Neil Haque resolved to lose weight, but lasting change only arrived when he approached things differently in 2025. Rather than following strict diets, he committed to making sustainable changes and chose Disneyland, his favorite place, as his daily walking ground.

Over the next twelve months, Neil walked thousands of steps across Disneyland Resort, fueling himself with healthy snacks from home and capturing his journey on video, which inspired an online community.

A Mindset Shift

Initially, walking was challenging due to his weight and chronic Achilles pain, which often left him discouraged after just half an hour.

When his father suffered a stroke, Neil gained powerful motivation to restore his health and walk on behalf of his dad, filming his progress for his father’s encouragement.

Walks Through the Park

Having previously worked at Disneyland, Neil returned to the park with new purpose: fitness. His walks started on January 17, 2025, allowing both accountability through social media and connection with his dad.

“The reason why it’s different this time is because I feel like I had people behind me, or just a bit more support than before,” says Haque.

Encouragement from his online followers and his family fueled his commitment. As the pain in his legs faded, walking became a natural part of his after-work routine, and the park’s diverse activities kept him motivated and active.

Neil made it a habit to avoid tempting theme park treats, instead choosing nutritious snacks during his 5-6 mile daily walks and managing his meals with a personal fridge stocked with whole foods at home.

Looking Ahead

Neil views his weight loss as the first “season” of his personal journey, noting his ability to walk pain-free at 265 pounds.

“I measure by how my life changes… So, for now, I want to get to a lower weight so I can go skydiving. That gives me motivation instead of thinking, ‘Oh, I want a certain number.’” says Haque.

With new seasons ahead, Neil plans to keep walking as his lasting foundation for wellness, using meaningful goals to fuel each step.
