Experts suggest choosing mentally stimulating games that are new and a bit challenging for the most cognitive benefit. Routine activities like physical exercise, nutritious meals, restful sleep, and socializing are also key to keeping your mind sharp.
“You do have to actively be challenging yourself as you age to keep those networks as engaged as possible for as long as possible,” said Angela Hein Ciccia, PhD.
If you’re comfortable with a game you’ve played for years, it may still be enjoyable, but switching things up can be even more helpful for your mind. Consistency matters, so aim for regular sessions lasting at least 30 minutes, a few times a week.
