Foundayo Pill Offers New Daily Option for Weight Loss
Health Points
- Foundayo is a once-daily oral GLP-1 receptor agonist that can be taken with or without food.
- It is approved for adults managing obesity or weight-related conditions alongside diet and exercise.
- Commercial insurance may lower the cost to $25 per month, with self-pay pricing at $149.
Federal regulators recently approved Foundayo, a new daily pill that offers an alternative to injectable weight loss medications. It is the second oral option in the GLP-1 class.
The treatment is designed for adults managing obesity or those overweight with weight-related conditions when paired with diet and exercise. Clinical trials showed significant results, with high-dose participants losing an average of 27 pounds over 72 days.
The FDA used a fast-track program to expedite the approval amid growing demand for accessible obesity treatments. Experts say the pill is easier for travel and daily routines, but long-term data is still being gathered.
It also carries potential side effects, including nausea and a boxed warning for specific tumors.
“It’s a significant milestone to have another GLP-1 tablet,” said Dr. Pouya Shafipour, a family and obesity medicine physician.
Medical professionals emphasize that sustainable health still depends on protein, fiber, regular physical activity, and other healthy habits.
