  • Nighttime light exposure between 12:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. is linked to a greater risk of heart problems.
  • A study of nearly 89,000 adults over 9.5 years found higher rates of coronary artery disease, stroke, and other heart issues among those with more nighttime light exposure.
  • Experts believe that disrupting sleep and natural circadian rhythms may raise cardiovascular risk.

Exposure to light during typical sleeping hours may increase the likelihood of heart disease in adults over 40, recent research reveals.

Scientists tracked participants’ heart health after monitoring their nighttime light for a week, finding strong connections between increased exposure and conditions like heart attack and atrial fibrillation.

“Exposure to light at night could interrupt the natural sleep cycle, setting off changes that impact heart health,” said the researchers.

To help support your cardiovascular health, consider dimming lights in the evening and minimizing digital device use before bed.
