  • ByHeart is recalling two batches of infant formula following a nationwide outbreak of infant botulism.
  • Thirteen infants who consumed the affected batches were hospitalized, but no deaths have been reported.
  • Consumers should stop using recalled formula and contact ByHeart for replacements.

ByHeart has voluntarily recalled two batches of its Whole Nutrition Infant Formula after being notified by the FDA of an infant botulism outbreak under investigation. While the FDA has not found a direct connection between the formula and the illness, the company acted to ensure product safety.

The recalled products include batch codes 251261P2 and 251131P2, both with a use-by date of December 1, 2026, and UPC 5004496800. These batches were available online and at retailers nationwide.

No other ByHeart formula batches are impacted by this recall, according to company statements. ByHeart confirmed, “It’s important to know that the FDA has never found a direct link between infant formula and infant botulism, and no related toxins have been found in any ByHeart product.”

Botulism is a rare and serious condition caused by a toxin that affects the body’s nerves. Symptoms in infants can include constipation, difficulty feeding, weak cry, and respiratory issues.

The current outbreak has affected infants across ten states, including Arizona, California, Illinois, and others. All reported cases have been treated in hospitals, and the CDC notes that no fatalities have occurred.

If you purchased ByHeart formula with the recalled batch codes, discontinue use and dispose of the product. ByHeart will replace discarded cans and offers support for those affected.

If your infant exhibits symptoms of botulism, contact your healthcare provider promptly.

Stay informed and protect your family’s health by checking baby formula batch codes and monitoring updates from health authorities.
