October Forecast: 3 U.S. Regions To Expect Warmth
Health Points
- October temperatures are set to be warmer than usual in the Eastern U.S., Southwest, Rockies, and parts of the West.
- Warmer falls can prolong allergy season and increase wildfire risks.
- Above-average temperatures may reduce the vibrancy of fall foliage.
Weather experts say much of the U.S. is in for temperatures above average this October. The Eastern half of the country, from the Eastern Seaboard stretching past the Mississippi, is especially likely to experience these milder conditions.
According to the latest outlook, regions like Louisiana, Missouri, Arkansas, Iowa, northern Illinois, and southern Michigan have up to a 40 percent chance of warmer weather.
States farther east, New England, and the southern tip of Florida could see that chance rise to 60 percent.
The Southwest and the Rockies are also expected to see extra warmth.
Western Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, eastern Nevada, southeastern California, and parts of Idaho could reach up to a 60 percent probability for higher temperatures.
Western states like California and Oregon are expected to experience autumn warmth as well.
Even northern spots like Washington and Alaska could see above-average temperatures, according to the National Weather Service outlook.
“Lingering summer weather can extend allergy season and increase wildfire risk,”
note experts.
It can also dim the dazzling hues of fall leaves, making the season a little less colorful than usual.
