Cage-free eggs distributed by Country Eggs in California and Nevada have been recalled because of potential salmonella contamination. Health officials have linked 95 illnesses and 18 hospitalizations to this recall, though no deaths have been reported.
The recalled eggs were sold under brands including Nagatoshi Produce, Misuho, and Nijiya Markets, with sell-by dates from July 1 to September 16, 2025 (product code CA 7695). They were available at grocery stores and through food service distributors between June 16 and July 9, 2025.
According to the CDC, most reported cases are in California, while other states like Nevada, Washington, and Minnesota have a few cases each. Country Eggs has stopped production of the affected products while the FDA continues its investigation.
“Ensuring the safety and quality of the eggs we supply to our customers is our responsibility and our focus each day. We know this is concerning, and supporting you through this process is our priority,” Country Eggs said in a statement.

Salmonella infection symptoms include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (sometimes bloody), fever, chills, headache, and abdominal pain. Healthy adults typically experience symptoms within 8 to 72 hours of exposure, and they usually resolve within a week.
Older adults, children, pregnant individuals, and people with weakened immune systems are at greater risk of serious complications like severe dehydration and bacteremia, a condition where the bacteria spread to the bloodstream and potentially other body parts.
Consumers are urged to return or discard any recalled eggs for a full refund. Staying informed helps keep your household healthy and safe from food-borne illness.
