The grandson of H.B. Reese recently voiced concerns over the direction of Reese’s products, pointing to shifts in recipes and ingredient quality.

Brad Reese claims that some Reese’s products have replaced traditional milk chocolate and peanut butter with compound coatings and peanut crème.

He expressed his disappointment directly to Hershey, raising questions about maintaining long-standing quality and brand trust.

“How does The Hershey Co. continue to position Reese’s as its flagship brand… while quietly replacing the very ingredients (Milk Chocolate + Peanut Butter) that built Reese’s trust in the first place?”

Hershey stated that their classic Peanut Butter Cups remain unchanged, still featuring authentic milk chocolate and peanut butter crafted onsite.

Yet, recipe adjustments help them launch new product types and meet evolving consumer preferences.

Brad Reese’s experience with the new Mini Hearts variety left him dissatisfied, believing the taste and ingredients differ notably from tradition.

The product’s packaging highlights the use of “chocolate candy and peanut butter crème” instead of the original recipe components.

“It was not edible,”

Reese said.

“You have to understand. I used to eat a Reese’s product every day.”

“This is very devastating for me.”

The FDA enforces clear standards for what qualifies as milk chocolate, which may influence how companies label products.

International versions of Reese’s also face different labeling regulations, potentially resulting in formula differences depending on location.

Hershey maintains that any changes go through consumer testing and assures that their core Peanut Butter Cup recipe stays consistent around the world.

Still, Brad Reese and some fans notice differences in taste and texture and urge Hershey to prioritize quality alongside innovation.

“I absolutely believe in innovation, but my preference is innovation with quality,”

Reese said.
