  • 28 states will see chilly rain; 6 enjoy warm weather this Halloween.
  • East Coast celebrations could be hit by rain and dropping temperatures.
  • West and Southwest expect dry, breezy fun—pack an umbrella or jacket where needed!

This Halloween, weather across the U.S. will be anything but predictable, with some states bracing for rain and others basking in sunshine. The West Coast can expect more pleasant conditions, while the East should prepare for potential showers and a chill in the air.

Paul Pastelok, AccuWeather Lead Long-Range Expert, said,

“The Halloween forecast is a treat for much of the West Coast, but a trick in the East. A lot of parades, outdoor parties, and trick-or-treating events could get soaked this week…It may be a breezy night of trick-or-treating in some spots. It’s a good idea to pack a poncho or umbrella, just in case a few showers pass by.”

If you’re in the Midwest or Southeast, plan on typical late October weather—think crisp nights in the 40s and 50s—but you’ll likely stay dry while trick-or-treating. Still, bringing a jacket is essential to fend off the nighttime chill.

A surge of cold air will reach the Northwest, Mid-Atlantic, and Northeast, bringing rounds of rain and cooler temperatures. Mountain regions may even see snow, with rain threatening to dampen Halloween plans, especially in New England.

An AccuWeather update notes,

“A long train of storms will continue to affect the coastal areas of the Northwest. Rounds of rain and wind are expected in lower elevations along the coasts of Washington and Oregon Friday into this weekend. Some snow is possible in the higher elevations of the Cascades.”

Meanwhile, the Southwest will have warm, breezy Halloween conditions. If you’re celebrating in Southern California, watch out for gusty Santa Ana winds, which could stir up decorations and pose a fire risk.

“Some bulky costumes and inflatable decorations could be blown around by gusty Santa Ana winds in Southern California this week,” Pastelok advises. “Please use caution with any open flames, including candles, fire pits and bonfires.”

Whether you’re trick-or-treating in a raincoat or heading out in short sleeves, plan ahead so you can make the most of your Halloween festivities and stay safe while having fun.
