- Support from colleagues and loved ones was key to her recovery and positive outlook.
Suzanne Rogers, a beloved fixture on “Days of Our Lives” for over five decades, recently shared her Stage 2 colorectal cancer diagnosis and successful treatment journey.
She explained that a sense that something was off—despite regular colonoscopies—led her to seek further medical evaluation, which resulted in the cancer being caught early.
“And the minute he said that I knew that it was something more,” she recalled.
After a regimen of daily radiation and chemotherapy, Rogers credits her co-stars and family for helping her stay strong throughout her recovery.
“It was all a shock. I mean, I think I was in a shock for several days because I take pretty good care of myself. But he said, ‘It’s a good thing you caught it in time.'”
She took comfort in support from cast members, especially Linsey Godfrey, who was by her side during treatment, and the show’s producers, who encouraged her to prioritize healing.
“Now, I’m feeling anxious like I do any time I get scripts because I want to do my very best and you don’t want to hold up anybody. So that’s the only anxiousness I feel. It’s not because of my illness, let’s put it that way.”
Rogers also reflected on how this health scare shifted her mindset, helping her to focus on what truly matters and the importance of community support during challenging times.
The American Cancer Society recommends starting colorectal cancer screenings at age 45, highlighting the value of staying proactive about health, especially as we age.
Take a cue from Suzanne Rogers and stay up to date with your screenings—early detection can be lifesaving and support makes every difference.
