Bloating occurs when the stomach fills with air or gas that causes discomfort and abdominal pain. Just add lemon to your water to ease the pain and soothe a bloated belly.

Stomach bloating is most commonly caused by trapped or excess wind, resulted from eating foods which are hard to digest. This includes stodgy food like junk foods; gassy food may include vegetables like beans, broccoli, cauliflower, sprouts, onions and cabbage: and gassy beverages like soft drinks and beer.

One easy way to relieve the pain is by adding lemon juice to water. This may alleviate bloating and indigestion due to its acidity that’s similar to the stomach’s digestive juices. This can help ease the digestion process and also stimulates metabolism.

Water is generally good in flushing out toxins from the body. Hot water is more soothing for the stomach than cold water. Therefore, adding lemon to hot water is much better.

Eating food that is high in salt cause the body to hold on to excess water so it can avoid dehydration. The result however of water retention is stomach bloating. It may sound ironic, but drinking more water can help reverse the problem. Drinking more water may reduce bloating caused by water retention since keeping hydrated helps in flushing out excess fluid.

In this way, the body won’t feel it’s dehydrated anymore and won’t hold on to excess water. The effect will improve more by adding lemon to your water, as lemon juice is a natural diuretic, meaning it helps in the increased production of urine—causing you to pee often.

Other beverages that can help relieve stomach bloating include herbal teas like peppermint and green tea. If you’re a fan of fruit juices, then papaya or pineapple juice is the most recommended because these fruits have enzymes that promote digestion.

The National Health Service recommends “cutting out fizzy drinks and foods that cause wind. Sit down to eat and take regular exercise” to avoid having a bloated stomach.
