After a quiet start and fewer named storms than usual, weather experts anticipate Gabrielle will strengthen as it moves west-northwest. High winds and heavy rain are possible in Bermuda early next week, while the storm is predicted to avoid a direct hit to the U.S. East Coast.
“Gabrielle is forecast to pass north of the Caribbean islands as it curves to the north over the weekend. At this time, we expect this storm to steer clear of the U.S. East Coast,” says DaSilva.
Residents in Bermuda should stay alert for forecast updates and prepare as wind gusts may reach up to 60 mph, with one to two inches of rain possible by midweek.
While Gabrielle draws attention, meteorologists report a low risk of further tropical development in the central Atlantic for now. The overall hurricane season forecast has also been slightly lowered, but caution remains for possible direct impacts on the U.S.
